# A Calm Page: Notes on Reading at Night

Reading on a screen late in the evening is easier when the page is quiet. This sample is written in **Markdown**, so you can see how the Text Reader shows headings, lists, quotes and *emphasis*.

## Why a darker page helps

A bright white page throws a lot of light at your eyes in a dim room. A soft dark page lowers that glare, and the text stays sharp when the contrast is gentle rather than extreme.

> Comfort is not about black and white. It is about how long you can read without noticing the screen.

## Three small changes

1. Choose a warm or neutral dark theme instead of pure black.
2. Make the text a little larger than you think you need.
3. Take a short break between chapters.

## A short checklist

- Lower the screen brightness in the evening.
- Keep line length moderate, around 60 to 80 characters.
- Use generous line spacing for long texts.

## Try it yourself

Change the theme, text size and spacing in the reader and watch how this page responds. Everything stays in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.
