How to Keep Notes on a Dark Page

Write, search and export notes on a calm dark page that saves as you type, with nothing to sign up for.

What this guide covers

Notes are written and reread for hours, often in a dim room, and a bright blank page makes that harder than it needs to be. A dark notepad that opens instantly, saves as you type and needs no account fits the way notes are really taken: a sentence during a call, a list between tasks, an idea before it disappears.

The Dark Notepad keeps your notes in the browser you write them in. There is no sign-up and nothing to sync. This guide shows how to start a note, set the page the way you like it, find notes again and take a copy when something matters.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Start a note

Press New note, give it a short title and start writing. The note is saved in this browser a moment after you stop typing, so there is no save button.

  2. 2

Set the tone and the type

Choose Classic, Warm, Blue or OLED black, then change the text size and the serif or sans-serif type. The page remembers your choice for next time.

  3. 3

    Find a note again

Type in the search box to filter the list by title or by any word in the text. Clear the box to see every note.

  4. 4

    Copy or export

Copy a note to the clipboard or download it as a plain .txt file that opens in any app.

Habits that keep notes useful

A note that holds one subject is easier to find than a single long page with everything in it. Give each note a short title you would type into a search box, such as “Project ideas” or “Meeting with Anna”. The list on the left then reads like a table of contents for your work.

Because notes live in your browser, treat the export button as insurance. Download a note as a plain text file when it matters, or copy it into another app. Clearing the site data in your browser removes saved notes, and nothing can recover them for you.

Tips

  • Give each note one subject and a title you would type into a search box, such as “Project ideas” or “Meeting with Anna”.
  • Use a distinctive word, such as a name, when searching a long list.

Good to know

  • Notes live in the browser you wrote them in. Clearing site data removes them, so export anything you cannot rewrite.
  • Notes are not synced between devices.
