My Library is a convenience, not a cloud. It keeps the files you chose to save inside your browser, and that is why a file can seem to disappear. These are the usual reasons.
You are in a different browser or profile
The library lives in one browser on one device. Files saved in Chrome are not visible in Edge, and files saved on your laptop are not on your phone. Open the browser and profile where you saved the file.
It was saved in a private window
Data created in a private or incognito window is removed when all private windows are closed. If you saved a file there, it is gone when the window closes. Use a normal window for anything you want to keep.
Site data was cleared
Clearing cookies and site data, or using a “clean up” tool, can remove the storage where the library keeps its files. Some browsers also clear site data when you close them if that is set in their privacy settings. Check that the setting for dark-shiftmode.com is not on a “clear on exit” list.
The browser ran out of space
Browsers limit how much a site can store, and they may remove stored data when the device is low on disk space. If you save large files, keep only the ones you need.
You used a different address
Browser storage belongs to one website address. If you opened the site from a different domain or from a local copy of the files, you will see a different, empty library.
You want the file on another device
Because the library is stored in one browser, it does not move on its own. To read a file on another device, download it from My Library, open it there and add it to that device’s library. Highlights stay with the copy in the browser where you made them.
Check how much space the site uses
Your browser’s site settings show how much storage dark-shiftmode.com is using and let you review what it is allowed to keep. If the library is large, remove files you no longer need to leave room for new ones.
How to avoid losing a file
- Keep the original file. The library holds a copy, not the only copy.
- Use Download in My Library for anything you cannot replace.
- Export notes from the Dark Notepad as .txt files when they matter.
Highlights are missing but the file is there
Highlights are stored with the file. If the file is in the library but its marks are gone, it was probably reopened as a new file by choosing it from your disk. Open it from My Library instead, so the stored highlights load with it.
