Install
The extension is free. Get it from the store for your browser:
- Chrome: the Dark Theme page in the Chrome Web Store. Press Add to Chrome.
- Microsoft Edge: the Dark Mode page in the Edge Add-ons store. Press Get.
Confirm the permissions prompt and the extension is installed. No account is needed. You do not need the extension to use the tools on this website, which work on their own.
Which browsers are supported
The extension is built for Chrome and Microsoft Edge, and those are the two browsers we test it in. Other browsers that are based on Chromium may let you add extensions from the Chrome Web Store, but we cannot promise that everything works there. Firefox and Safari use their own extension formats, so this version does not install in them. The tools on this website work in any modern browser, with or without the extension.
What the browser asks when you install
Before it finishes, the browser shows a list of what the extension is allowed to do. The extension asks to read and change the pages you visit, because that is how it can apply a dark theme to them. You can read what this means for your data in Where your files go: privacy and permissions.
Keep it within reach
New extensions are often hidden in the puzzle-piece menu. Open it and press the pin next to the extension, and its icon stays in the toolbar where you can switch it on and off quickly.
Updates
Chrome and Edge update extensions automatically in the background, so there is nothing to do. If you want to check, open chrome://extensions (or edge://extensions), turn on Developer mode and press Update. A browser restart also triggers a check.
Use it on another computer
Extensions are installed per browser, so a second computer needs its own copy. Open the store page there and install it again. If you sign in to Chrome or Edge with the same account and sync extensions, the browser can add it for you.
On a phone or tablet
Many mobile browsers do not support extensions at all, so the extension may not be available on your phone. The tools on this website do work on phones and tablets, because they run on the page itself and need nothing installed.
Switch it off for a moment
You do not have to remove the extension to pause it. Turn it off from the toolbar icon, add a site to the white-list, or disable it on the extensions page and enable it again later.
Remove it
Right-click the extension icon and choose Remove from Chrome (or Remove from Microsoft Edge), or press Remove on the extensions page. Your browser asks you to confirm.
If you are removing it because something did not work, we would like to know. Please tell us what went wrong on the contact page. Your feedback helps us fix what matters.
